He Is Always On Time

There’s no such thing as wrong timing with Jesus

I was especially reminded that He is always on time two weeks ago.

Our Pastor wanted to visit my Mum in the hospital to pray for her again, especially following the news that her last-available leukaemia treatment was ineffective and her doctors would cease all forms of treatment and switch into support mode (palliative care). Early in the week, our Pastor messaged me seeking a day/time to come to the hospital, but my replies were quite tardy in my blurred state between hospital, home and school drop-offs/pick-ups.

After my delays, we finally got onto the same texting rhythm by Thursday, and there was a plan in motion for her to visit my Mum on Friday. Of course, we (all of humanity that is) do not know how things will be two hours from now, let alone a day, week or year ahead from now. I didn’t know that same Friday would be a beautiful ending and a blessed beginning for my Mum.

But God knows

My Pastor arrived just after I had left to pick up my boys from school, and sent me a message at 3:07 pm to let me know she had visited my Mum. But I didn’t realise it; cue distracted Mum-life with kids coming home from school, raiding the cupboards like they haven’t eaten for days, and school bags and shoes all over the floor…

When my phone rang at 3:49 pm and I’d rummaged through my bag to pick it up, it was the hospital doctor advising a change in my Mum’s condition and “it’s best to get the family in as soon as you can”.

I then read the message from my Pastor. She had seen my Mum, sat with and prayed over her.

It would have been one of the last things my Mum’s spirit heard (as her physical body was not responding to our conversations with her)— the best encouragement and preparation in her final hours and before her family arrived to see her make it Home.

His ways are not our ways

We can get so frantic and flustered trying to make things happen to our deadlines and schedules. But Jesus is never in a harried rush or panic. We make our best plans, but the Lord determines our steps.

You’ve probably heard the saying about missing a good opportunity as “missing the boat”.

He doesn’t miss the boat

Jesus actually sent the Disciples off in a boat and joined them later on the water.

He always makes things come together in good time.

Isn’t it fascinating my Mum got a beautiful prayer from our Pastor just before her condition changed? God was preparing her spirit for her big Homecoming party.

I headed over as quickly as I could, as it was my Mum’s biggest heart desire that her two daughters be with her for those final moments.

At 6:00pm, my sister arrived after navigating peak hour traffic across the city (plus extra traffic mania from the Taylor Swift concert).

Along with my husband and two aunties, we all prayed together with Mum one last time. And my beautiful Mama breathed the last from her lungs at 6:05 pm.

Those final five minutes were her heart’s desire being realised and fulfilled by a good, Good Father.

He always has perfect timing

And He’s always on time. His plan was better than anything we could have woven together for ourselves.

Adonai God is always working on the finer details for the good of you and me.

Keep trusting and believing; you can count on this: He is up to something good!

Hey, friend! I'm a Jesus-lover first and foremost, and consider it a great privilege to encourage you in the journey of faith. I love all things creative, growing and drawing flowers, and heading on weekend adventures with my little family.
